RAW Leatherworks
Raw Leatherworks utilises age-old techniques in handcrafting leather. Designs, patterns, animals and letters are all carved by hand, then tooled and dyed.
Products are made up using a variety of leather from vegetable tanned (which is used for carving) to oiled leather and leathers that are tanned in an eco-friendly manner.
On offer are: journals, book covers, kindle and i-pad covers, handbags, mousepads, purses, old-style coin pouches, passport folders, water bottle holders, keyrings, bookmarks….. the list goes on
Commissions are accepted and If carving leather is involved it can be personalised with initials.
About Us
Following a lifetime of fascination with leather and leathercraft, Philippa Wilson-Buys founded Raw Leatherworks in 2011. Very quickly, she realised she was running out of space in her home based workshop, so she moved the workshop to a studio in Gateshead before relocating to Edinburgh in 2021.
Here she designs and creates all things leather: satchels, handbags, hand-carved journals, pouches and anything else her customers ask for. In fact, what she loves most is to create a bespoke item for a customer. It is the challenge of something new and the creative thinking required that she loves – but above all, for Philippa it is about the delight on the faces of those customers when they see a specially designed, unique piece of leathercraft, made especially for them.
